Comments & news on food science research and development

Starting with some mathematics

It's an unexpected first step for a food science blog (flog?), but maybe the most important part of our field is mathematics. So let me introduce a link to a really easy statistics site, made by Jim Deacon (Biology Teaching Organisation, University of Edinburgh).
Introduction to the site by the author himself:
I have produced this site, as someone who uses statistics in my experimental work, but I am not a statistician. The site is intended to provide a simple, straightforward guide to the basics of experimental design and to some of the common statistical tests.
There are several excellent sites on Statistical methods. But I think that many undergraduates (and graduate students) want only a user-friendly beginner's guide - or a refresher course - that enables them to use statistical tests with a minimum of fuss. That's the aim of this site. It is by no means a comprehensive guide, but it will get you started and, if nothing more, it will help you to understand the meaning of the symbols you see in scientific papers.

About foodlogic

This blog is dedicated to food safety, let's say from an aspect of a young expert of food microbiology. The topics most important to me (relevant, new, interesting, strange) will be discussed here. So the main direction of this blog is food microbiology, but some other food-related news will have publicity here.

Some of the links or news published are to make our work easier - our work means the work of teachers, professionals, researchers, developers in the fields of food microbiology. Some other links and posts are just for fun or to emphasize the real values and meanings of life (eat fine things with fine people - a salute to SlowFood).

With my work in the world of microbes I often found myself in a situation that there was nobody who could answer my questions (or even I could not form a good question) or I could not find practical information or education material for my lectures and practicals, so I decided to start collecting these things and to share it with others.

Please feel free to use any kind of information available on this blog or to comment the posts and make this flog (food blog) a real 2.0 experience :)
